“Tobacco difference”

John Dingell is a leading congressional recipient of cigarette industry contributions. When he chaired the House Energy and Commerce Committee, he frequently sided with the tobacco lobby, blocking legislation that would have reduced tobacco marketing targeted at teenagers and required tobacco manufacturers to fully inform the public of the harmful additives and ingredients contained in their products. His continued acceptance of big money from Big Tobacco shows he hasn't changed.

In contrast, Lynn Rivers has consistently championed measures to protect kids against nicotine addiction.

Douglas Kelley, Ann Arbor

From Congressman Dingell's Internet-Bio (Does he know tobacco is unsafe?)

The needs of working families are Dingell’s highest priority. He has devoted his career to expanding access to affordable, quality healthcare, protecting American jobs, cleaning up our air, land and water, guarding the taxpayers’ wallets by holding government bureaucrats and contractors accountable, and protecting consumers from unsafe products, unfair practices and corporate abuses.
